After learning the basics of crocheting and practicing my hand with a couple of things, I decided to give myself a real challenge and made a completely new plushie…. crocheting purely on vibes and not on patterns.

This is a dusk bird. It’s a creature in my friend’s webcomic by the same name: Duskbirds
There was a lot of trial and error with this, give the “vibe crocheting”. A lot of frogging. A lot of guesswork. And then sewing pieces together. It was fun! I’m especially proud of the legs and the mane of feathers…! Which were chains of Scale Stitches (aka “dragon scales” or “crocodile stitches”) sewn onto the body in strategic places to frame the face like a collar.

The plushie was made with wool/acrylic blend worsted weight yarn… and bits of my dogs fur b/c fuuuu… that stuff likes to stick to wool anything. I originally bought this color to try and make Titan plushies for my Adventures With Titan comic, but the heather pattern of the yarn doesn’t quite translate to a merle pattern when used. But made for a great dark grey color for my friend’s creature!
No pattern for this (again… vibes). I’m not even going to try to translate this to a pattern. Too crazy. But I was happy to make it for her as a gift!

I’m still so impressed you made it without plotting a pattern, that baffles my mind! So cool. The feather texture works so well, it matches the character very accurately. The proportions are also very accurate (not easy! especially without a pattern!) – I can’t wait to see more of your crochet projects, I love seeing the ones you’ve been crafting!
❤️ Thanks! I’m glad you like it. 😄 I’m making a bunch of dice bag patterns as my “next thing” with crochet… though I’m currently trying to do too much at once so I’m putting that aside a bit to work on comics a bit. 😁 Too many hobbies 😅
