Played my 1st online D&D game through Start Playing Games (SPG) – a platform for finding paid professional DMs (which honestly for the amount of work a DM has to bring to the table, they’re 100% worth paying – I think of it like paying for dance classes or club dues).
I decided to draw my and Juan’s characters for this game.
Ari Duskwind

My character. I ported her over from Adventure League since the 1-shot was at level 5 and I didn’t want to spend effort building up a new character. She’s young thief under the employ of a high mage who hold her trapped sister as collateral after she tried and failed to rob him in the past.
As a character build, due to the Bracers of Archery in her Adventure League activities, she’s become a high damage sniper. Paired with a rogue’s “Steady Aim” bonus action feat, shooting from a long distance gives her a lot of attack bonuses (Steady Aim = advantage on hit roll, Sneak Attack = extra damage on advantaged targets, Cunning Action = optional applied stat effect if sneak attacking. Not to mention having Longbow Weapon Mastery means a successful hit also slows the target by 10ft (I don’t have longbow mastered because I still prefer the sword and dagger masteries instead)). Plus… if she does get hit or the enemy manages to reach her for melee, she has high evasive abilities like Bonus Cunning Actions (she can hide, disengage, or dash as a bonus action) and Uncanny Dodge (where she halves the damage of any successful attack).
She’s fun to play. And based on the D&D 2024 Free Rules (because at the time, that’s what I had). I like bringing her to pick-up games because her lore/RP reasoning is pretty flexible but she’s also able to just exist as a party fighter for the less RP-heavy gaming (like Adventure League).
Anyways, that’s me geeking out about a cool character build.
Drawing-wise, because I opted to give Ari a Chthonic Tiefling Legacy, I themed her colors on blues, greens, and purples. Her species-based magic abilities are necrotic in nature, so the green glow from her eyes hints at that heritage. Otherwise, she’s pretty far removed from her heritage and is also young, so doesn’t have the gait-ness or succubus-like appearance that is described in the resource books.
I gave a lot of thought to her design… 😅
Pinn Rowick

Juan’s decided to design a new character for this online game. Pinn is a scholar-type, like a nerdy university grad student (think Cyrus’ personality from Octopath Traveler). He’s eager to test what he’s studied out in the wild, even if it’s not the most practical solution in the world, with the pursuit of knowledge through experimentation and experience being the (perceived) goal.
Juan gave me a basic physical description and I actually sketched a full-body version going back and forth on the design (which is actually pretty cool and I want to finish it), but ended up just focusing on the portrait to for the in-game profile pic. These took me less than a day each to complete so I can see myself doing more. Though I still want to work on coloring and overall line weight. I don’t know. I find the lines way to thick this time. :\
